Billikens make a difference in communities near and far. Read about just a few Saint Louis University graduates making an impact.

Terri Steffes, Ed.D. (GRAD ED ’13), was a school principal in Jefferson City, Missouri, when she began searching for a well-respected leadership doctorate program with the academic rigor of a prestigious private university, she said. Steffes chose Saint Louis University for its renowned educational leadership program.

 In this episode of “1818: A Saint Louis University Alumni Podcast,” co-hosts Tony Minor (A&S ‘03) and Meg Connolly (A&S ‘90, GRAD A&S ‘92) delve into how SLU has shaped St. Louis. With their guests, they explore the University’s impact on its surrounding community and on St. Louis as a whole, including its decision to remain in the city.

Mark Etling, Ph.D, (GRAD A&S ’91) understands the value of a Jesuit education. Having earned his doctorate in historical theology from Saint Louis University in 1991 and taught theology in the School for Professional Studies since 1987, Etling said his lifelong quest for learning and educating others in the Jesuit tradition continues to inspire him, even in retirement.

Months before Joseph Brown, S.J., (A&S ’68) joined the Society of Jesus, he received a scholarship to attend Saint Louis University, and his late father Floyd Brown was overjoyed. The pathway to Jesuit higher education, which Floyd could not pursue because of his race, was available for his adult child.
