INTO Saint Louis University delivers university-designed English language programs to support and prepare international students for successful academic careers at Saint Louis University.

Our Programs

Academic English

Each level in the Academic English program is 16 weeks long for fall and spring semesters, and 10 weeks for the summer semester. Each level includes courses in writing and grammar, reading and vocabulary, and listening and speaking. Students also learn about American culture, contemporary American issues and other topics that build the background knowledge and the study skills students need for success at SLU.

Placement in each level is determined by language proficiency exams.

Courses in Academic English do not count toward graduation requirements.

  • Academic English Level 1: Beginner
  • Academic English Level 2: High Beginner
  • Academic English Level 3: Intermediate
  • Academic English Level 4: High Intermediate
  • Academic English Level 5: Low Advanced 

International Direct

International Direct is a supportive curriculum and entry track designed for Saint Louis University's international undergraduate students. The International Direct curriculum features credit-bearing English courses and introductory-level degree courses, all of which contribute to completion of a bachelor's degree at SLU.

Graduate Pathway

INTO Saint Louis University Graduate Pathway programs are ideal for international students who need additional English language and academic preparation before continuing to a degree program. Graduate Pathway programs combine intensive language study, academic skills development and credit-bearing coursework in a customized program designed to move students successfully into their graduate degree program at Saint Louis University.

Accredited Program

The Saint Louis University English as a Second Language Program is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation for the period August 2025 through August 2035 and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions.
